What Happened to Tree Lounge Tree Stands?

with 489 comments

The original Tree Lounge tree stand. Many accessories were added over the years including wheel kits and covers.

Regrettably, the Georgia based company Tree Lounge that was started by Bob and Margaret Hice is no longer in business. The Hices sold their company, but the new owners went bankrupt and they got their company back with a load of debt. In addition they received something of a black eye because the new owners sent production to China, and the resulting stands were not as rugged as the originals.

The Ground Lounge tree stand.

Bob and Margaret resumed production at the original factory in North Georgia. They re-introduced the original model of the stand with an elaborate set of accessories, added a new line “Elusive Whitetail,” and made a “Ground Lounge” and “Ladder Lounge” to enlarge their product offerings. During this time Bob died and Margaret, who always ran many aspects of company operations, took over management.

With much reluctance the last of the company’s 40-odd employs were let go and

the company closed its doors last spring. To hear a more complete version of the story, listen to an interview that I did with Margaret on “Hovey’s Outdoor Adventures that aired on Oct. 17, 2011, on This show is available as an “archived show” and may be heard by activating the drop-down menu. I found Margaret, who is the secretary of the the Georgia Chapter of  Safari Club International, representing the Chapter.

Margaret Hice at the EPIC Game Fair.

To listen to the show  from the EPIC Game Fair, which includes Martaret’s interview,   go to my website , and click on the “Hovey’s Outdoor Adventures Radio Show” link just below the banner. That will take you to  the show page.

The original stands were rugged and can be expected to last for generations.  I do not know of anyone supplying parts and accessories for them. If someone is, please reply to this post.

  1. Hi my name is Cory Gray and have an orignal Tree Lounge. You can’t beat that stand, bar none. I would like to see the right person start the company again. Thank you Bob and Margaret Hice for a wonderful product that no company can match. (Edited comment WHS.)

  2. Many people will agree with you. Keep your stands nice. I suspect that they and their accessories will increase in value.

  3. I have always wanted to own one but never could afford it. I purchased one that was abused from a 3rd owner and am currently trying to repair it. I need the bow platform badly. It’s sad that I can no longer have the chance to own a brand new out of the box Tree Lounge. I was shocked when I ordered a catalog and found out a month later they had closed down, I hope they will open back up so I may have a chance to buy the best hunting product ever made, but untill then I’ll keep searching for a used one, rigging the one I have, and waiting for the good news of their return.

    • Jeremy, I wish that I could offer some encouragement. I suppose that there are parts out there somewhere, but who, where and how you get at them I do not know.

    • Hi Jeremy if you are still in the market I have a Tree Lounge with chill pad, archery platform, gun holders, bow holder, and shooting rail. I am to old to use it and have been reduced to hunting on the ground. The stand is the newer model if I remember correctly they said it weighed 19 pounds without all of the add ons. I also have the attacment for leveling the climer part of the stand. If your still interested email me at

      • Looking for anything to do with tree lounge tree stands, any information is welcome

        March 3, 2015 at 10:42 am

      • Dave,

Please be more specific. I have some videos up on Tree Lounge stands to get you started on general information, their stands and how to use them. They are available on YouTube. Just search “Tree Lounge Hovey” when you are at the YouTube channel and that will bring them up. I also have some other blog posts which you can find with a Google using the same search words. Take a look at this material, and then come back with some more specific request, should you have any. There is a community that wants to help, but we need a bit more from you than you have given.

The King-Stand is a major advancement over the lounge.I rather carry a King-Stand at 21 pounds than a lounge at 30 pluse pounds.

  4. Sad. All I can wonder is how a product that is so amazing, can fall of the face of the earth? This has got to be profitable for someone to manufacturer. This story must have future chapters.

    November 25, 2011 at 2:24 pm

    • I too own one of the very early models (recommended to me by a coworker )who’s cousin was from GA. When I purchased it they really had not gotten a large marketing effort under way yet. Could last forever only the seat /sling replacement
      might be needed.

      November 29, 2011 at 2:42 pm

      • the seat can be replaced if you can find somebody with a tornup trampoline, the seat is made out of the same stuff you just have to figure out how to sew it on the ends so it will work

  5. witch one is the best the square frame or the d shaped frame thanks

    carl eaton

    December 3, 2011 at 8:09 pm

    • The square-framed tubular versions were all made in the U.S. and are the stronger design.

      December 4, 2011 at 6:02 am

      • I have one that I bought in the early eighties and still works as good as new. The rectangle tubular frame is STRONG and a bit heavy. The stand can be put 30′ off the ground and not have a worry. The first year I used it on a ice coated tree and it never shifted on the tree, made me happy to own one.

        December 19, 2011 at 12:49 am

  6. This is the best tree stand I have ever used. I have a few accessories but I am looking for others, such as the angle adjusters. Any ideas

    December 19, 2011 at 3:39 pm

    • My only suggestion would be to fabricate them yourself. I have never owned a traditional Tree Lounge, and I am not sure what they look like.

      December 19, 2011 at 9:39 pm

    • The original angle adjuster was a hardwood angle wedge with a hole bored through it and a adjustable bungie cord with hooks on the ends to wrap around the tree. This has worked fine for me. You could make one easy enough. If you need more info let me know. Tim.

      any ideas?

      October 23, 2012 at 8:12 pm

      • How handy are you with a needle and thread? You need a tough synthetic outdoor cloth. Some have suggested trampolene fabric. Seal the cut edges with a torch, fold, sew with synthetic fishing line, use a gromet kit, put in 8 gromets top and bottom, tie to frame with nylon 1/4-inch rope, seal ends of rope. This is about a 3-evening project for one guy. There are other synthetic cloths that would work. Used filter cloth from paper mills or clay processing plants, for example. Sail canvas can also work, but would not be so long lasting.

      January 25, 2013 at 4:32 pm

      • On the last versions of the tree stands sold by Tree Lounge, a very complex safety harness with leg supports was shipped with these stands. You needed daylight and an assistant to best put on the thing. I cut away the bottom portion and used the chest and trouser belt to offer support for the lower limbs. Any of a number of safety harnesses would work, if that is what you need. Or, are you talking about the webbing connecting the bottom and top parts of the stand as you climb?

        January 25, 2013 at 9:03 pm

        November 10, 2016 at 3:00 am

  8. I am looking for the standing part of the tree lounge tree stand. I want to be able to stand in my tree stand and bow hunt. Does anyone know where I can get this part?

    James Reymundo

    March 24, 2012 at 1:46 am

    • There is really not much to it. If you have some fabrication skills,a welder or someone that can weld it for you and the measurements it could be built yourself. If you think you can do it, I have the old type that had plywood on it that I could take measurements from.

      March 24, 2012 at 10:38 pm

      • Remember that you are putting your life on the line if you build that archery accessory yourself and attach it to a Tree Lounge. The base stand is amply rugged, but you have to make sure that whatever you tack onto it will support you. Whatever you build, try it out at a couple of feet and “proof test” it before climbing a tall pine and “hanging it all out.”

        March 25, 2012 at 12:59 am

      • She is now the Sect. of the Georgia Chapter of Safari Club International. Google that and reply to some of their materials and the communication will reach her. I do not know what may be available from Tree Lounge. Perhaps after being seriously burned before by others getting into the Tree Lounge business, she is understandably reluctant to have anything to do with anyone on this topic.

James, I am glad that you are having good luck with refrubishing these old stands. There is certainly a demand for people wanting to keep taking deer from their old stands. I cannot judge how large this market is, considering the competition from lighter weight climbing stands. Nonetheless, these old U.S. made stands have real value, and people will pay to keep them in service.

Please post up a couple of photos of your revitalized stands, prices and contact information when you have some available. I think people would be interested in taking a look at your work before they send their stands to you. I realize at this early stage refitting each stand is a custom job. After you have done a sufficient number to firm up your pricing and costs, you can also post a price list for repairs if you like. Put an end date on this list, so that you are not locked in as prices for metal, energy, shipping and fabric increase. These will go no where but up in the foreseeable future.

        March 25, 2012 at 2:35 pm

    March 25, 2012 at 2:03 am

    • I have the complete stand. I only used it 4 times. It has the bow platform & original Safety Harness. I can no longer use it since back operation. It is in perfect shape and has the bigger knobs and all. If I can get a decent offer $275 I’ll consider selling otherwise I’ll find a young local hunter to gift it to.

      November 11, 2012 at 12:36 pm

  12. I just bought a slightly used one with every conceivable accessory for 150 dollars as a backup for my generation 1 stand. Good thing I found that deal. I hate to hear that the company shut down and that Mr. Hice had died. He seemed like he would have been a nice man. I will still enjoy the videos and my tree lounges are always going to be the most comfortable stand period.

    May 6, 2012 at 5:12 am

    • Thats a pretty good deal.I had thought about selling one of mine until this. One of the stands I got for 80 dollars and it had the bow adapt and chillpad.I seen one last summer at a yard sale for 50 dollars. It needed painting but I wished I would have bought it.I can’t believe he was selling it that cheap, I guess he did not know how much it was worth. I hardly ever use mine anymore but I think I will hold on to both stands. You never know. One day they might be worth 500 a piece. They will be a part of hunting history because they are the originals and made in the USA!!!

  13. I bought a Tree Lounge in 1989 at a show in Charlotte, from Mr. Hice and his wife. It has been the best tree stand I have ever used. It came with 4 videos that have really been helpful. The world has truely lost a good person. I know I will miss his expertice. My husband weighs 340 pounds and he says the security he feels in the tree lounge makes all the difference in the world. We also regret the loss of this man and his company. Also, I am looking for a part, the crank to attach to the tree. You can contact me if you have one at 910-368-8842

  14. I need a chill pad or two for my tree lounger which i think is the best all around tree stand and deer cart i have ever used so i hope the company comes back because thats a very good product if you cant carry you gear in you can wheel it in if you have the wheel kit and if you get a deer you take your stand downand wheel your deer out thank you for such a wonderful product but i need the chill pad

    • I recently bought a treewalker ProMag and the chill pad for this stand will not only work great with the Tree Lounge it is actually superior. Filled with closed cell foam and has straps that are MUCH stouter. They are long enough to fasten to the tree is you want. Check the website.

    • Most Tree Lounge users faced with this problem will make or adapt something that will work. There is no presently available parts supplier that I know of. Write your particular needs here, and perhaps someone can help you out. For the U.S. made stands, these used American Standard fittings, screws, etc.

      • I was reading some reviews about tree lounge and saw your name a few times. I have hunted from a tree lounge since the mid 80’s and I know it’s the best tree stand in the world. But I have a question that you may can answer. how much longer is the extended version than the original? Seat climber & foot climber? Can you help me with that? I’d sure appreciate it.

        Rev. Johnny Haney

        October 19, 2012 at 1:37 pm

      • I don’t know the answers to your questions, but I am sure someone in the community of Tree Lounge users does.

        October 19, 2012 at 6:42 pm

  16. I have hunted out of my tree lounge since 1997 and have taken several nice bucks with it.My stand is the original model and i bought a new bowhunting platform for it,the second year that i had it. I loaned it to my friend to hunt out of it once and he liked it so much he bought one for himself complete with bowhunting platform.During one hunt of mine after getting off work on 3rd shift i fell asleep in it 25 ft up .I remember it still being dark at around 7am in the morning and thought i would take a half hour nap.when i woke up it seemed real late to me and i looked at my watch and it was 2pm.I desided then to get down from my stand and go home as i slept through my hunt. But the fact that i slept in it for 7 hours with out waking up showed how comfortable and safe it is.Since the company closed down i would recommend to anyone to try to find i used one before i would buy a new stand from any other company.A different friend of mine once talked me into using his api climbing treestand and the bottom platform rope came untied from the top platform and slid 10ft down the tree from me. After that incident i have never used any other treestand.

  18. If there is an investor that wants to take over and make the product and it’s accessories to the ruggedness they once were, would it be possible to acquire the company?

    Stu hamblen

    August 29, 2012 at 10:23 pm

    • Stu, read some of the previous posts and you will see that others have expressed similar interests. Restarting Tree Lounge could expose you to some old claims on its assets, copyright and patent problems. This is not to say that it could not be done, but go in with you eyes open and with warnings that you are likely going to be hit with some unforseen and costly happenings. It is better that those interested share their talents and the risks. There is likely not room for three such companies to launch Tree Lounge like stands at once. Although, I can see the need for a series of one-man Tree Lounge reconditioning businesses scattered around the country working the used stand market.

  20. owned and used the Tree Lounge for the past 20 years, this is one extremely durable stand… I was hunting public land and this stand has been the cause of many deer to meet my freezer. This was one AMERICAN product that lived up to the advertisement, sad to see it end.. Thanks Bob and Margaret for making a great product….

    September 2, 2012 at 7:37 pm

  21. I was introduced to hunting in Ohio in a Tree Lounge. As someone who is nervous with heights, I managed quite well in a Tree Lounge. I was hoping to be able to hunt with one here in Michigan now that cross bows are allowed during bow season but seems they’re pretty rare (and getting even more expensive than they used to be). I watched a video showing Margaret doing a back bend over the edge of the Tree Lounge. That combined with seeing a woman hunting, helped give me a boost. Didn’t realize at the time what I was passing up when my sister moved and sold hers four years ago. 😦 And it’s really sad to hear about what happened to the company and the owners. Definitely a product to be proud of!!

    September 4, 2012 at 11:31 pm

    • Dear Sandra,

Good luck in finding one. There are used and occasionally new stands bought by their owners that were never put on a tree. Keep checking in here. They occasionally show up.

  22. hey Sandra, i have two tree lounges and both are in great shape, in fact iv’e repainted both stands and now they look brand new. One stand iv’e had for about 9 years and the other about 2 years. The one iv’e had for 2 years i got on a trade for a hunting blind that i only had 80 bucks in and i got the old bow adapter and the tree nest seat pad with it. I hardly ever use them but they are great stands and i would hate to part with them. I think i’ll hang on to them for a while, never know they might be worth a lot one day.

    • I have one of last ones produced by the company before it was closed. They had reverted back to the original design with the rectangular tubing in black. I have a brand new extra seat as well as two large knob sets as replacements. I also have the steep angle adjuster for the seat section as well as the chill pad accessory. The stand has been used about 10 times. I am getting too old to climb and will sell it. I live in VA and can ship it to you. I am asking $400. Let me know if you are interested.

  25. I’m glad to see this article is still alive, hadnt checked it since i wrote on it last year, and seem to have missed a chance buying one on here. Is there anybody in virginia (hopefully central va) that is refurbishing or fabricating them cause the one i got last year has the normal first run upper but the foot climber is screwed up and i lost my patience trying to fix it and make the bow platform. I tried to sell it, thought 80 was fair but all i get is low ball offers or the guy that wants me to ship ot across the country with a check so he can ” fix and return it”. As much as id like to have it fixed or traded off with cash to boot for one thats already been repaired and ready to go, i cant keep forgetting of how i have already been burnt already when i paid 120 last year for it when the foot climber is nothing like any other one i have seen. So if there is anyone local that is in the business of fixing and trading please let me know cause the best I’ve been told was I’ll give ya 20 for the top for parts.

  26. I’ve had my tree lounge for eight years and my seat doesn’t seem worn at all. I’m curious, is there others out there that have a tree lounge 10 plus years old and the seat is still good? How long can I expect it to last? Seems like its good for another 5 years, just wondering how other peoples are holding up.

    • There is a lot of interest in these stands. They are well made, useful stands. If you have a chance to purchase two of them, do. Keep one and sell one if you do not need them both. The price of them, particularly the original all-American-made versions, will do nothing but increase.

      October 7, 2012 at 6:39 am

      • what did they cost new i see some on ebay selling from 350 too 500 and i got lucky and got 2 of them 1 with the bowstand the other plan

        sniper aka mike

        October 7, 2012 at 7:39 am

      • The original price much depended on what of the many accessories that you bought with them. As I recall, the basic stand was $2-300, with accessory packages, like the wheel kit, running hundreds of dollars more. As with anything used, the cash value of a used stand depends on its condition and, most importantly, on what a buyer is willing to pay; rather than its original price.

        October 7, 2012 at 10:02 am

  30. I was fortunate enough to buy the new version with all the accessories before they closed, Chill pad the nest bow platform blind and even the large umbrella wouldnt sell it for the world. Best stand Ive ever owned

  31. i can make anything u might need for a tree lounge.even a new one if needed.I’ve been making them for over 10th years for friends and family members. This stand is the best one for hunting in my book.I have shot over 30 deer out of my bow model. For bigger people I would recommend making it out of steel. Its heavier but it holds up better to more weight.I have tested mine to over 2000 lbs. I’ve even took a 600lb motorcycle and dropped it while connected to the stand.yes it bent but it held very very well and was even still useable.steel version is 170.00 painted any color u would like.even camo. Contact me at briphillipsonebay for any needs of parts or new stand or repair of ur stand.

  34. Hi I have had the origional model for years and have hand made many accessories for it my own thinsulate tree nest, adjustable shooting/safety/blind rail, a ground stand out of the foot climber but one thing eludes me I need to know what the precise differences are from the regular origional model and the origional extended model can anyone help

    October 29, 2012 at 3:44 pm

    • They asked for your height when you ordered. I believe it was over 6’3″ go the extended. They lengthened the frame slightly ( I think about 2″) which allowed more legroom. I am 6′ and tried one and found that the backs of my legs were jammed hard on the rail because my feet didn’t reach the footrest properly. Ordered mine as standard and no problem. Have discovered that a cushion under your rear will let you use the longer one if you not tall enough.

      Dennis Pritchett

      November 11, 2012 at 1:08 am

      • It sounds like there has been sufficient activity to start putting some prices on tree lounge stands. These are certainly not engraved in stone and the correct price is whatever is agreed between a buyer and seller.
If you are thinking about what to ask or pay it appears like the following is about right:

New in box basic lounge no accessories $400

Gently used, all parts there with extra accessories $400 (all accessories as in Margaret Special) $500

Frequently used paint chipped, but all there and working $350

Hard used, some parts missing worn, $300

        Wheel kit, as new $100

        Wheel kit, used $85

        Wheel kit, hard used $50

Bent up lounge with either top or bottom member bent missing or worn parts (rebuild special) $100

This appears to be a reasonable guide to present pricing.

  38. Anyone have the dimensions of the ” climbing bars” including bolt types and length and how they are secured in the tubing ? Last weekend someone tried to steal my tree lounge. Since it was locked to a tree ,they managed to remove the knobs and the bars that lock it to the tree. Now my stand is useless. I need to make it usefull again. Thanks in advance.

    November 13, 2012 at 3:58 pm

    • Ok now u have even me confused????
The original stands had only a bar across the back side locking it to the tree with two 3/8 inch bolts. I replaced the bolts with clips but that was just me.if u still have the stand just measure across the beams to get the sizes u need. Or if u want the total dimensions to build a new stand just email me at and ill send it to you.

      brian phillips

      November 14, 2012 at 3:00 am

      • Thanks for the reply, Interesting thought on the clips but if it’s 3/8 pins how do they keep the bar snug to the frame. Since my bars ( for both the foot climber and seat frame) are gone I didn’t know if there was anything special order specific to this stand. Any how much it would cost to replce them? They couldn’t get the stand , I had a cable lock through the braces and around the tree.

        November 14, 2012 at 2:45 pm

      • Just get a price of 2 inch x 1 1/2 inch tubing. Steel or aluminum will work just fine.cut to length (width of stand) Drill holes to match stand and your good to go.this should get u back in stand.

        brian phillips

        November 15, 2012 at 5:49 am

      • Thank You. Already done.
Bob Hice thought out of the box and came up with Tree Lounge.
I frequently deal with metal fabricators throughout my travels. Unless someone has a objection especially someone in the Hice family I was going to approach some of these fabricators to see of they wanted to entertain the idea of putting this stand back into production.

        November 15, 2012 at 2:10 pm

      • If you or anyone else makes a new version of the Tree Lounge, send me one. I will try it out, evaluate it and post a review on line. There is certainly interest in these stands, but the market will not likely accept more than one maker of new stands. I don’t think that there would be sufficient demand and two companies trying to beat each other on price would likely result in both failing. There would be considerable risks if two or more decided to produce Tree Lounge stands in any given year. There is more room for repair, parts and supply fabricators on a regional basis as small one-man shops.

My suggestion would be to do a virtural company and try to cooperate; rather than compete. I would hope that the result would be a new American-made Tree Lounge stand that would make money for the participants and again provide the consumer with an outstanding product.

      • Where did you find the clips to replace the bolts with?????thank you.

  39. I really wanted a Tree Lounge, but being an Unemployed, Disabled Veteran, Who can’t work because my my service connected disability, I couldn’t afford to buy one. Now that they are out of business it looks like I will never own one. This chair looked like it would have been better for my back, than any other chair I have seen on the market

  40. UPDATE

    November 20, 2012 at 3:35 am

    • That is an interesting twist that I did not get from Mrs. Hice when I did the interview. You can listen to the interview on This interview was done at the Epic Game Fair in Atlanta about a year ago. Go to my website, and at the very bottom of the page click on the link for the Hovey’s Outdoor Adventures Radio Show Blog. Look for the show with “Quail Balls” in the title.

There was strong market resistance to the change in the shape of the aluminum structural elements from a square tubing to the “D” shape.

Good luck on your attempt to reintroduce it. As you make progress please post it. Quite a few people are interested, as you have seen.

      November 20, 2012 at 4:45 am

      • Hi do you mess with old tree lounge stand

        Rob Capone

        September 27, 2016 at 5:20 pm

    • David, I have noticed a few differences between my Treelounge and my friend’s Treelounge. Before the “locking” bars were stolen they were 1 1/2 ” x 2″ tubing. The holes in my lounger are 3/8″.
My buddy’s lounge is different, maybe older. His holes are 5/16″ and the foot climber “locking” bar is 1″x 1″. The seat climbing bar is 1 1/2 ” x 2″.
I went the the fabrication shop. These guys build mostly towers , leaning post and and accesorries for boats. They didn’t have 1 1/2″ x 2″ aluminuim tubing. They had 1″ x 2″ tubing. I told the shop owner what this was for, as he is an avid hunter. He advised the 1 x 2 cut to length was be plenty strong enough for this application.
How many differences between generations of stands have you come across?
I am learning a lot about this excellent stand and it’s history.
I really believeve you are onto something good. Of all the stands I see hanging at Bass Pro , none to me compare to the Treelounge.
Also, since I am putting 3/8″ holes in the new tubing , it looks like the pins would work out fine since it’s going to be a snug fit. The pin has to lock at exactly 3″.

      November 20, 2012 at 3:35 pm

    • If it is ever made again, I would love to have someone contact me at I would also like to know if I can get parts or accessories for the one that I have now. I need another bottom for mine. I’ve had it a very long time. It’s the rectangular shape. Look forward to hearing from you.

You can see the write up of the show at by searching down through the blog until you reach the show. There is a link on the blog to my page. 42. john

there was 3 different versions that i know and have seen

the older lounges had bigger back bars(braces) when they were sold raw aluminum u had to paint them
then the d shaped frame was smaller but stronger because of the shape and the extruded lines on the sides of the d shape the powder coated hunter green stands
then they went back to the square shape frame before they went out of business and stayed with some of the smaller ideas
when the stands were sold black and there also was some green ones also was the 1st of this version and then the 2nd version was black and thats the last stands they made and sold

    thanx david

    November 21, 2012 at 1:44 am

    • Thanks for the info on the varieties of stands. I had only seen the two later stands.

      November 21, 2012 at 8:20 am

  43. hovey,
yes there was a strong market to change to d-shaped because alot of the stand on the market were getting donwn between 16-20 lbs
the d shaped frame came in at 18-19 lbs
then the newer bow platform was 2.5lbs
so they had to compete with the market for liter safer stands !
to stay and compete in the market

the older square tube frames were at 29-32lbs stand only
4lbs for the bow adapter and then 2-3 lbs of assec(chill pad, tree, nest ,shooting rail, pillow, steep angle pad)
imo what hurt tree lounge was when they bought brent hunt stands and didnt want to sale instores(bass pro, cabelas, dicks sporting goods, gander mountain ,sportsman wharehouse)
i am stressing bigtime over this as i am putting alot of time in on this to get these going again
i beleive these are the safest most comfotable stands on the market and i will get this back on the market and in ohio, and i will attend every hunting show on this side of the us to get it going !
hovey i will send you one of the very first ones that come of the jigs!

    Thanx David

    November 21, 2012 at 1:54 am

    • Thanks David. I will give it a good work out, and supply you with some photos and publicity.

Two shows to attend. One is the ATA (Archery Trade Show) and the Shot Show. Shot will be in Nevada for the next couple of years. It is held in January. This is an expensive show, but the nation’s largest. If you can only attend one show, this is the one to go to. Both of these shows are dealer only shows. Here you would be selling to sporting goods stores, rather than to individuals, as Bob and Margaret did. Their marketing plan was a bit different, but they made a success out of it. Either way will work. You can start out small to individuals and then grow your market in stores at a later time once you have commercial-size production capacity.

      November 21, 2012 at 8:16 am

    • David, I agree that the Tree Lounge is the finest stand that I have ever had, but as far as the D shaped ones, I had both, one of the D shaped Cesso models, and one of the later green square tubed models. The D shaped one felt flimsy to me, and it did not seem to grip the tree as well as the square tube one. I sold the D and kept the square one. As far as the weight, the D with nothing on it weighed 21 lbs on my fish scale. The square weighs 25.8 with gun holders only. I wish you the best of luck with your venture, and I hope it turns out successful for you.
      Good luck.

      November 24, 2012 at 7:58 pm

      • My nephew also sold his “D” shaped stand after it slipped on him. His father has the older retangular which is what I had and it never slipped. I sold mine because of weight and bought a lighter stand, the TreeWalker ProMag XL. Very solid and doesn’t slip. 19lbs.

      September 8, 2013 at 6:38 pm

  44. I bought a stand back in 1999. I still have it, and i love it. The biggest downfall is that it weighs a ton and was kind of bulky and uncomfortable to get into the woods. That said, its a great stand. I have never felt safer in my stand and i would love to get my hands on a new one david if you are able to get the new one up and running.

  45. They can be fabricated for about 50.00 used big wheel lawn mower wheels and parts from ace hwdre

    December 6, 2012 at 10:38 am

  46. I have used my treelounge since 1998 and I personally believe that you can’t find a better stand on the market. In 2001 a friend and I built 3 copies of the stand using square aluminum tubing and they work like our originals. Instead of having the blocks in the tubing preventing the tubes from sliding apart, we used a series of holes and pins with kotter keys to hold them together. We also used that same design for the bow platform. I also built a scaled down version for my 11 year old daughter to use and she killed her first deer, a 5 pt. buck, this past Sept. on a youth hunt here in Michigan. David, if you’re still trying to get your company off the ground, you may want to look into how much you have to change a design before it is out of the realm of the Treelounge legacy. I used canvas duck cloth for the seat and I didn’t use the same tubing as in my original. We tested our 2×1 and 1/2 inch with over 1000 lbs of weight and it was more than enough to hold it. I hope that someone will take this “type” of stand into the future, as it is the best design ever. Good luck and good hunting.

    Chuck Spencer

    December 10, 2012 at 3:31 am

    • This illustrates what can be done if you have the metal fabrication skills, equipment and raw materials to replicate a Tree Lounge type of stand. Canvas duck cloth will work for seats provided that the stands are not left out in the weather. Tough synthetic fabrics are better, but even they must be protected from direct sunlight.

      December 10, 2012 at 6:23 am

      • Actually we sprayed the seats with a water repellant material used on boot leather. I believe that it would hold up to whatever mother nature can throw at it.

        December 11, 2012 at 5:10 am

  47. I have a real TreeLounge with bowhunter platform and “The Leveler” attachment which is an extremely useful accessory. With the leveler, you can adjust the angle of the stand with one hand, while you’re climbing, rather than having to make a guess of the tree’s diameter at the height you plan to hunt…. before climbing. I have it in storage a few hundred miles away, so I cannot get it to you immediately. Make a reasonable offer. I plan to buy some other hunting gear I need with the money.

And I was wondering if anyone had any accessories to for it, I’ve been told there are TONS of accessories for this awesome Treestand. Please e-mail me at or where i can find some, even if its universal, but I much rather the original equipment

    December 30, 2012 at 8:34 pm

    • You have purchased one of the best designed tree stands ever made. You can anticipate that if given reasonable care and not left in the woods from season to season that it will last a lifetime. There are many hunters who have used these stands for 20-years and more. The most common failing is losing knobs in the woods, followed by seats being torn by sharp objects or weakening from long exposure to direct sunlight. The most frequent other thing that happens to them is being backed into or run over by vehicles in the dark or around camp.

        January 20, 2013 at 1:44 am

      • At least three people are interested. I cannot say who is further along at this point, but Tree Lounge appears likely to be a re-start in some, or perhaps more than one, configuration. The danger is that this is a good, but limited market that is not likely to support more than one company to the degree that will make it truly viable. I can see that there might be several refinishers and rebuilders around the country, but only one manufacturerer of new Tree Lounge stands.

      July 12, 2013 at 2:22 pm

  60. The wheel kit is easily made from 2 – 3″ pieces of 1 1/2″ aluminum angle and an old kids bike. Take the angle and drill two holes spaced to match tree lounge holes in one flat and one hole in middle of other flat. Take the wheels off the bike and bolt them through single hole, then use 2holes to bolt them to tree lounge. You now have a functional deer cart!

    April 9, 2013 at 2:55 am

    • How do you attach the tires to the aluminum angle pieces?

      • hoveysmith where can i get a set of wheels for my tree loungr

        September 17, 2015 at 1:28 pm

      • I have posted your request on my blog. If someone has a set to sell, they will likely be in touch with you. These are not too difficult to make. I use sets of kiddy bike wheels salvaged from dumpsters and you can use aluminum blocks and a solid axel like the Hice’s did or go with drilled steel angle iron and short or all the way across axel segments. There are at least three variations of these wheel sets. One uses plastic wheels, while the better one employs small steel bicycle wheels. Both work, but I like the steel wheel version better.

as of now we have finally got some info on back assets on what treelounge had when the doors shut
investors are working on trying to get it cleaned up so there will be no asset
as for the patents most patents have run out and others are very close have allready got the motion rolling on new patents just kinda in limbo mode waiting on the sum part to get worked out then
we will start making tree lounges in OHIO
    thank you all
if u need parts or a used lounge like new
call me or email or txt

    April 23, 2013 at 1:31 am

  62. David it sounds like things are moving along. You need to consult with a patent lawyer about what exactly you can do with the patents. You can, and should, file for a trademark; but to be granted a patent you would have to produce some new physical feature or manufacturing process that the Hices did not employ. Just because a company changes hands or another person is producing the product, is not by itself grounds for filing a new patent on a line of products.

    April 23, 2013 at 5:13 am

  63. I was understanding if a patent was changed by 30%. You could apply for a new patent. I’ve owned three deluxe tree lounges. I met Mr Hice in Richmond, Va. He had the stand on a steel pole. It was incredible. That’s wene I bought my first stand. I can’t believe they are going to be built in China. Where is the tree lounge buisness at now with the patent? Is the copyright trademark for sale?

    Ben Crabtree

    May 17, 2013 at 2:43 pm

    • This is a very thorny problem and others have a nearly 2-year head start on working on reviving the Tree Lounge tree stand and once again making the original versions available to hunters. There is room for one new producer who is well financed with a good marketing plan and for a number of individuals who repair and/or refurbish these stands as one-person shops. The concept of bringing back these stands is popular, but the possibility is that more than one company may try it at once and all fail because of price competition between them and the small size of the market.

      May 17, 2013 at 3:07 pm

      • Is the trademark for sale. We have a aircraft industry here in Kansas that is suffering. It maybe a better location for starting a new company. Yes, the cost of the stands are more expensive. But there are people that will pay extra for a quality Treestand like the tree lounge. Putting together a good buisness plan is the tricky part? Having China build these are not what Margaret and Bob wants I’m sure. I’m just wondering if margret would have a meeting with me to let me pick her brain. I’m a 100% service connected veterian. And can get help from the SBA and Veterians Administration. My disability has helped me to know. When people say no or can’t. It makes me say yes and I can. It would be nice to have these stands made in America by disabled veterians. Bob Hice started this buisness by selling the tree lounge on the side of the road. And built the first stand out of wood. To me that says a lot about the tree lounge. And that mindset is how they built the buisness. And that mindset shouldn’t be outsourced to another country! How many stand companies send a video about the quality of a stand? And there Videos of margrets hunts were great. The tree lounge sells itself if you put it up agains other stands. I would also like to pick your brain about where the tree lounge. I think that the problem with the stand is when the original started getting modified. I’m just looking right now at the cost and production. Can’t you help me? Thanks for the help.

        Ben Crabtree

        May 18, 2013 at 1:25 pm

      • I have no direct connection with Tree Lounge, and my last contact with Margaret Hice was over two years ago. At that time she was the Sect. of the Georgia Chapter of Safari Club International and received E-mails through that address. I suggest that you Google the Georgia Chapter and attempt to communicate directly with her. As I mentioned, others may already have something in progress in regards to manufacturing these stands.

  67. I have a real TreeLounge with bowhunter platform and “The Leveler” attachment . With the leveler, you can adjust the angle of the stand with one hand, while you’re climbing, rather than having to make a guess of the tree’s diameter at the height you plan to hunt…. before climbing. I also have the original bar, the nest type chill pad, pillow, gear bag, wheel kit, pack strap pads and support belt, gun holder hooks and the gun rest bar with the camouflage curtain. Over size knobs. It’s the D type frame green powder coad a little chipped and I believe it’s the extended model. 71. I have enjoyed reading comments on this blog. I came to it looking for info on what to sell my treelounge tree stand for. Wow, I wasn’t aware that they had sold the company and it later went out of business. I don’t have opportunity to hunt anymore, so I reluctantly have decided to sell my treelounge that I purchased in the early 90’s. I was unpainted aluminum, with the large knobs, bow stand attachment. I have custom camo painted the stand. Apparently it was such a good job that my son, who was in another stand only 50 yds. away, couldn’t see me when he looked away and then tried to find me again. Of course my personal camo and face paint didn’t hurt. From what I am reading, my original, made in the USA treelounge, is somewhat valuable. I would like to get $300 for it. If someone thinks that is reasonable, then email me at I will send current pictures of the stand mounted on a pole or tree, even with me and my bow in it. I know, you can’t wait to see that, ha ha! August 5, 2013 at 10:14 am

  74. I have one of the original Tree Lounges that came in bare aluminum. I painted it in flat brown/black camo and it has held up very well since 1990. I also attached brown / black camo netting under black lounge material. I have video tape, manual also.I love this stand and have taken 84 deer out of it. Lower back problems prevent use of it now. Did have bow hunting platform, but did not use often so it got missing over the years. This it the safest stand I ever used. Never used a harness with it ever. Took many naps that way high up in a tree. Do not advise others to hunt that way just my choice. Never had it move once in it. You can get a rest aim in any direction, even behind you. Shot 3 deer with my Thompson Center muzzle loader out of it in as fast as I could reload once. They never saw what hit them. Will sell and can supply pics. Asking $200.00 and shipping. I live in Matthews, NC call 704-616-8372 or Email ask for John.

  76. I would like to know where I could buy more bolts for the stand! Had my stand for over 20 years! Loaned to friend and he lost nuts and bolts on foot climber!

    Randy watts

    September 8, 2013 at 6:27 pm

    • Go to your local hardware store. These are U.S. dimension bolts on the bow stand and also get appropriately sized wing nuts and lock washers. Match up and get some spares for your others too. Others may now also offer the bolts with reproduction knobs.

      September 9, 2013 at 2:50 am

  77. finding those exact bolts locally are hard mine at bolt depot online.

    September 9, 2013 at 3:06 am

  78. I used to have one of the older model tree lounges back in the early 90’s. I agree it is the best stand ever made. Really sorry to see the company close. I wish i had never sold mine. Does anyone know where I can find one or two of the ground lounges? Not sure how many of them were produced, was going to purchase them last year until I found out the company closed. Any help would be appreciated.

    September 15, 2013 at 6:53 pm

  79. I am sad to hear this. I was hoping to purchase another one (new). I have owned one for years which I purchased second hand. It is by far the best climbing tree stand that I have ever used. I guess that is not a fair statement. Once I owned one I never use anything other climbers! You could stay in it all day. My biggest problem was that it is so comfortable I fall asleep.

    • I occasionally get post on this blog for new in-box stands or those that have been very little used. Just keep checking back, you never know when one might turn up. Expect to pay $300 or more for tricked-out new stands.

      September 27, 2013 at 10:17 am

    • Will do sir. Thanks for the reply. I still use mine but I may be replacing some parts this season. Mainly the plywood floor on the bow hunting attachment and the seat. This is a great product – not to mention I use to watch Mr. and Mrs. hunting videos all of the time.

      Ross Nichols

      September 27, 2013 at 10:47 am

      • The new plywood bottom for the bow stand is no real problem, but finding new seat materials can be. I polyurethane paint mine every couple of years and do not leave them out when I am not using them. If you needa new seat or knobs, etc. ask here andsomeone will be able to get them to you.

        September 27, 2013 at 11:05 am

If anyone is interested you can contact me and I can send you pics and prices. Thanks Rick.

  92. I’m in Saginaw, MI. I have (2) of the older square tube models with Bow Platforms. They are in good shape and have been painted. They both have Bow holders and safety restraints. I’ll sell them for $300 each. Call me at 989-714-37 one one. My name is Chuck. You can pick them up or I’ll ship them at your expense. Again they’re in good shape, seats are perfect, straps are good, and the paint is chipping, but otherwise they are great. I have 3 and don’t use these.

      April 23, 2014 at 2:14 am

      • Hey Guys- The tree lounge stand company went out of bussiness couple years ago. Partly because they had such a massive recall on the leveler in which the article says that if a heavy load is imapacted on the leverler that could crack and the bolts under the leverler could bend. Also I had heard from my couson that they had been sued by a hunter that had climbed up in a tree 30 to 40 feet high and the bolts broke. The poor guy ended up as a paraplgic for life. It must been true I had asked a sales rep about this from the tree lounge company and he asked me how I found out about it. I found about it from my couson due it was his hunting buddy who was the one who had the accident in the tree lounge. You can read more about it on this. website ( There are some tree lounge stands still available here and there.Me myself I changed from treestands to groundblinds couple years ago. Please be safe out there replace anything like bolts and nuts with heavy duty grade 8 bolts and nuts. Good luck in the hunting season.

        April 29, 2014 at 2:17 am

  93. I have recovered a Tree Lounge manual and some instruction sheets on some of their accessories, such as the bow stand. I am inclined to re-publish these, but they are still under copyright protection. I do not know who owns these copyrights. If anyone does know, please let me know. Because there are so many used stands in circulation without these manuals, I would like to re-publish them as a matter of Public Safety. The Hices put considerable emphasis on using their tree stands safety and stressing the safe operation of these stands is a significant matter to new users who are not savvy about tree stand wedge placement, using their safety harness, the angle of climb, etc.

  108. I have the original tree lounge. This was a gift to me from my wife. The most comfortable stand ever. Built like a tank. I have went on many hunts, many great memories are now for ever associated with this stand. I had no idea that the company had went out of business. When I read this my heart was saddened. Thank you for building such a great product. This stand will be passed down to my children and they to can continue to build memories with their family. Thank you Cassie for such a great gift many years ago and supporting me and sharing a wonderful time in my life.

  109. Posted August 18, 2014. I own the original tree stand. I had to leave the U.S. for two years. I return home and had to leave again for two more years. Everything at my home was o.k. after being gone for so long. Thank God I am back in the U.S. for good.
My building was broken into and over 10,000.00 USD of different items were stold. It took me over 20 years to by the items that were stold from me. I caught the person and he served 204 days in jail.
My TREE LOUNGE was part of the items stold. But the person did not take the foot section. If anyone has an original treel lounge they would sell please e-mail me at or call me at 864-617-8463
    Kindest regards,

      • I have a tree lounge with the bow hunter platform and the leveler. It’s in about 85% condition. The only part that needs a little TLC is the bow hunter platform. The seat material is in perfect shape – I never left it out for more than one or two days … and only did that a couple times. I’d consider selling it. I’ve posted on this thread before but then forgot about it.

  111. I have a tree lounge for sale.
This is my second tree lounge. I bought the first one from Bob & Helen when they were here in Harrisburg, PA in the original Pennsylvania Outdoor Show many, many years ago. I watched Helen move up the steel poles as far as she could. I was sold on Tree Lounge.
It was the only tree stand that I sat in 13 hours straight. I got my largest 8 point buck with the bow while using a tree lounge. Then I sold that and I bought their newer and better version. Several shoulder and knee surgeries latter I have ended up only using latter stands.
I am now selling my second original tree lounge tree stand. Since I am a bow/rifle/muzzle loader/handgun hunter I found that tree lounge has al the necessary add-ons needed. it has all the necessary part that are suitable for all of those activities. This stand has been used only 2 times many years ago. Since then it has always being kept in my garage never left outside and is in excellent condition. l
If you are interested contact me by I can have it boxed and sent almost anywhere so let me know if you want it. Hunting season is upon us here in PA.

  112. I have it used about 20 yrs ago.I love it.Have used others but like it the most.Sure its heavy but worth it.I can sleep in it and have LOL.I payed 30 for it what a deal..I have pained it a few times. replaced the wood on the platform ect.Got a replacement seat about 12 yrs ago just in case but have not had to replace it yet.I even hide it on the Eastern shore of Md under some leaves at a public hunting spot.I would hunt there and would just leave it there. It folds flat so it hides real well.anyway 2 yrs later went back with my gps.Sure enough there it was.A lil WD40 on the knobs a lil brush off and up the tree I went.

  113. I’m 6’6″ 300#, is this the stand for me?

    October 28, 2014 at 5:57 am

    • The standard stand is rated for a max of 350 lbs., and height wise I would think it would do fine. However, your knees would be pushed towards you more so and that might be a bit uncomfortable. The width would probably work. The best thing would be for your to locate someone in your area who uses one and actually sit it. At 5′ 6” now and 165 I am a small guy compared to you. The bowstand attachment would make it more comfortable for you to sit it, but I suspect would feel terribly unsteady for you to stand in. See if you can try one out somewhere.

      October 29, 2014 at 7:33 am

      • They made a version for guys over 6’2″ tall if you can find one.

  114. I have the first model produced and used it today, a big 8-point was close by, did not get a shot but tomorrow is another day, It is a strong and safe climber to hunt from and I like it a lot. Purchased at the Pa Farm Show at one of the sportmen shows, everything on it is original, I do notice some wear on the seat, mike in jersey shore pa

  115. I have one of the original stands and I killed a record book buck on its second use and always produces great bucks. Last year I decided not to use it where I was hunting that had a tall ridge to sit upon. I had a great view but deer all weekend came in behind me and saw me before I did them. The next weekend I took my Tree Lounge and had a nice 8 point buck down before 9 am. I am now 60 years old and cannot carry the Tree Lounge as in the past, but I will find a way to use it as long as I can. My buck harvest increased. Considerably with the Tree Lounge. Best money I ever spent and it is still worth 75% of the original investment.

  120. I know this may sound a bit silly, but on one of the tree lounge vcr tapes there was a certain song that I always loved to listen to every deer season. I lost the tape and have no idea who sings the song or what the song is called but here are some of the lyrics: ” I’ve counted the days, I’ve counted the weeks, I’ve counted the months, I’ve counted the seasons, I’ve done everything I could do within reason, so I could shoot my gun come deer huntin season”. If anyone has any info on this song, i would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

  121. I have one of the original square tube treelounge stands for sale. There are no accessories that come with the stand. It was only used two seasons and has been stored inside ever since. I would like $150 plus shipping. I now reside in WA

    December 14, 2014 at 3:54 am

  122. The old original Tree Lounge of around 1990 (Air Force grade aluminum, ‘square, not ’rounded’) must be the safest and most comfortable and heavy duty climbing stand ever made, especially with the angle adjuster (though, the old block of oak is just fine) and the ‘car type’ safety belt (or, the one that attaches to the Lounge), and easiest to carry. True, it can be dangerous if one forgets or neglects to keep physics in play at all times, but none safer or utilitarian. Whoever holds the rights to that original design should be able to sell them to some entrepreneur and get that stand back on the market. Along with all its accessories. And, Made in the USA! Wish it would happen.

      February 2, 2015 at 11:17 pm

  126. I had an original “Deluxe” tree lounge stands that Bob and Margaret designed and made. I sold it.

This particular tree stand was by far the very best and most comfortable tree stands ever made. I bought most of the accessories to make it even safer and more comfortable as possible.
By reading the comments about this tree stand it is obvious that it is becoming a “Collectors Item” since it no longer is being made.
If you are an avid hunter and are looking for the “Original” tree lounges there are still few of them out there but they are becoming hard to find and the cost of them is going up.

Just remember when you are 30-30 feet up in the tree, the imitation tree stands will not keep you safe and comfortable. What is your life worth. Be safe!

  129. My father wanted me to list his original tree lounge stand he lives in Florida and it’s hardly used it has everything purchased around in the 80s apparently this is the advanced model that has everything with it meaning any upgrades at the time that was offered for this tree lounge stand. I was going to list it for him on eBay but figured would post here first as I just ran across this article today. If you are a avid hunter I would suggest not to let this one slip away. Contact Mishelle {850}/463/011one

    May 3, 2015 at 3:33 am

    • Dear Mishelle,

There were two types of Tree Lounge climbers, and yours is likely the more desirable square-frame model, and many accessories were offered. For example does it have the bow-platform, shooting rail, cover, chill pad, wheel kit, wedge, or is it the basic climbing stand with knobs? Tell us some more about it. Did the stand get its deer yet? I assume that the telephone no. is (850) 463-0111?

      May 3, 2015 at 7:03 am

      • Dear Hovey,

Thank you for your reply. I just got off the phone with my dad and he described the following:
He used the stand – square frame-2x on 2 different hunting seasons.
        No Deer

        The stand has the following:
        Bow platform
Cover & Chill Pad- in excellent shape-camoflage, no blood, no mildew or smell.
        Homemade Wheel Kit
        Wooden Wedge
It does not have a shooting rail but has the gun holder.
        It has primer grey paint.
The number you listed is correct.

Heres some photos below that I was able to take:

        May 3, 2015 at 8:59 pm

      • That sounds like a $200 outfit to me. You may be able to get more, and should try. If you can’t I will buy it at that price plus shipping.

        May 3, 2015 at 10:13 pm

      • Dear Hovey,

Thank you for the offer. He believes he paid around $500 for everything at the time of his initial purchase. Next week I’m going to put a start bid on eBay for around $310.00 plus shipping. Again, thank you very much for your offer.

  131. If anyone needs a tree lounge i have one for sale, has rifle accessory, bow stand, chill pad . Used only twice, son didn’t want to hunt, but i don’t need two. Excellent condition.

    August 27, 2015 at 2:53 pm

    • Larry tell us if it is the old or new D-frame model, where you are and what you want for the outfit. There is demand and I am sure you can sell it, but we need a little more info.

      August 27, 2015 at 3:21 pm

    • The original tree lounges have become a collectors item. I had one that was almost new with all the add’ons to make the hunters time in the field safe and comfortable. It did not take very long for me to find a buyer who truly appreciated safety and top quality of this particular tree stand model.
If you have one, clean it up and posted here and you will be able to sell it.
      Good luck. Dr. Nupe

      • I have one of the original stands. Just the stand with no extras. I live in TN. Would like to sell it. How much is it worth?

        Norm Pollock

        September 21, 2015 at 12:53 pm

      • Dear Norm,

As with anything, it depends on its condition, how it was stored and how badly someone wants one. Assuming the stand has not been abused, seat and straps are in good condition and all the knobs are present in average used condition and ready to put on a tree $125 and up. This is for a stand that someone can put on a tree today. Tell people more about it, and you may well start receiving offers.

        September 21, 2015 at 6:35 pm

      • It has been stored in the house at all times. Straps and seat in good condition. All knobs are there. I would say good+ condition.

        Norm Pollock

        September 21, 2015 at 9:42 pm

      • Hello Norm, first look at your stand and see how it looks. Clean, paint and take photos of it if necessary.
If you have a webpage offer it for sale there. Since the buck hunting is still a couple of months away in most Northern states you may be able to unload it yet this year.
If you get some one interested email them the photos. Talk with outdoor hunting shops and tell them that you have an original tree lounge for sale. Give them also your photos. Some one who has herd about the tree lounge will come along and buy it from you. Good Luck, PJN

  133. I’ve got a Margaret Special I bought in late 90’s. Square frame and heavier. Has the full enclosure, bow platform, gun racks, chill pad, steep angle pad. Even have a bag I used and strapped to side rail. I’ve spent over 12 hours a day in this stand. Bow shot a nice 8 point (probably around 135 score). Work got in the way and seldom hunted since, still in great shape, never used the full cover.

      November 6, 2015 at 12:31 am

      • Philburt, my brother is 6’2, he uses the Kingstand and sits very comfortably with plenty of leg room! It’s not as short as it may look to you. If you are taller than that, call us we can custom make you one to suit your height. The price included shipping! The hype is, it is a kick %@# stand! It was designed for hunters by hunters! Comfort, strength and longevity, you can spend hours comfortably waiting! it’s max load is 400 pounds, and you won’t be replacing this stand in two years, even if you leave it in the tree. You can pull it, or carry it, but either way you can easily get it to your spot. There are still so many inquires about the Tree Lounge (which is no longer in business), but we are! If you love the Tree Lounge then you would love this stand as well! No disrespect intended, the Tree Lounge was/is a kick @#$ stand , but like I have stated, we are a business ready to sell! One last thing, I’am 5’3 female hunter, and have no trouble carrying my stand, and feel very comfortable sitting, and turning 360 in it!
        Thank you

  136. Just came into a couple of treelounges. Im going to keep one as a backup to mine. the other I would love to sell if anyone is interested. Its the D tube lighter style and has a bow stand adaptor. Its in “decent” shape from use. Some bonehead camouflaged the upper tubing with camo duct tape…that either was blue camo or turned blue. So the new owner would need to remove the rest and recamo. there is also a tear in the seat material…..this is in NH

    • Dear Travis,
I will go $150 plus your shipping costs on that one.

      October 26, 2015 at 11:44 pm

      • I would do that. I have some pictures if you would like to see the condition. its definitely been used and the seat would need replacing. I don’t see any structural issues and all the welds look/seem fine. I bought some new hardware to secure the bow adaptor as they had wingnuts and odd bolts there. there’s a seatbelt style safety harness and the straps for the foot bars/backpack carry are there. I would have taken the new bow adaptor but the hole pattern didn’t match with my older style box treelounge so is included. How would be the best way to try and ship this thing? Travis

    • The King-Stand is the most advanced climbing stand in the industry. The King-Stand comes complete with a permanently attached all aluminum welded platform. The King-Stand weighs 20 pounds and can be backpacked and also converts into a gear and game hauler with the wheel kit. King-Stand is a proudly made in the United States and is covered by a US Patent. The treelounge was an excellent product but the King-Stand is even better.

    • Not that I want to drive anyone away from this blog, but a Facebook Group sounds like an excellent platform for those interested in the Tree Lounge and related products. I will be doing more with the Tree Lounge this hunting season and testing the new King Stand compared to the standard an “D-Frame” Tree Lounges.

  150. Needing the seat for the tree lounge deer! The burlap seat canves

    October 5, 2016 at 1:21 pm

    • Brent,

I have a new seat for $50, but you may be able do do better with someone else. This is the only spare that I have, and I am not too keen about letting it get away from me until I can locate some replacements.

      October 6, 2016 at 8:22 pm

    • Brent see if you can get some trampoline material…that’s all it is!

      October 7, 2016 at 12:31 pm

      • That should cost half as much. Then all you would need would be the metal strip, self taping screws, washers. a good pair of shears to cut it and a cigarette lighter to seal any frayed ends.

        October 7, 2016 at 2:04 pm

      • Or you could just buy a King-Stand !

  154. Still enjoying the 3 original tree lounges I purchased many years ago. When I hunt another area with friends, using ladder/climbers other than my lounge, at the end of the hunt I just take a deep breath and remember why I got a tree lounge. Thank you Margaret

    Tim Meaux

    November 21, 2016 at 5:25 am

    • Well, Tim, you should simply take one of your Tree Lounges. I bought mine Aug. 27th, 1991, one of my few ‘treasures’ on earth. ‘Course, ‘moth & rust’ and squirrels can corrupt (the straps), thieves could break thru and steal, but, thank God, she’s as tough and strong and comfortable as ever. Unbelievably, some folk didn’t like theirs (claimed too heavy, or difficult to climb, when, actually, easiest to carry and climb/descend with to me, ‘simple & stupid’ if one keeps physics in mind at each stage), so bought another, traded for another (when I foolishly tried a Gunslinger, once). King-Stand looks like it would be just as good, but I say “Thank you, Margaret”, too. You and Bob left a lasting legacy, Made in USA, created jobs and a jam-up product.

      November 22, 2016 at 1:47 pm

  155. I have owned Treelounges since I bought my first in 1998. I have since used one every year and was fortunate enough to find a great deal on 2 other Treelounges. I currently own 2 square and one D frame. The D-frame while being lighter doesn’t seem as strong and secure as the original. So, if anyone would like to buy the D-frame Treelounges with bow platform, it’s $300 + shipping. LMK

  156. I have owned a tree lounge stand for 25 years. It’s the only stand that I feel secure and comfortable in. I’ve always wondered what bob and Margret were doing these days. Sorry that bob is gone. We lost a great outdoorsman and person that made a very good product.

    January 4, 2017 at 11:31 pm

  157. Hello
My dad and I both purchased one back in the late 80’s, about 28 years ago. We had a couple of the videos and remember one of the ads, Where the stand was mounted to a pole and the stand was able to withstand a load of 1500 lbs of concrete blocks. Reading over the emails and replies several difference people or groups of people are speaking of starting up the tree lounge brand again, what is the status? I would like to see the brand come back to Georgia where it truly belongs. Hoveysmith, are there any ground lounges or ladder lounges available, I would like to see pictures of both products. So if anyone makes replacement parts please contact me,

    Jerald Enfinger

    January 22, 2017 at 4:53 am

    • If anyone makes replacement parts, please reply on here, too. Also, I never heard of the ground stand until recently, saw a photo of it. I wish I had bought a couple of those back then. I suppose a good welder could make them easily enough, with trampoline material, though. IF someone brings back the Tree Lounge, it needs to be that old ‘square’ one, not that so-called ‘improvement’. It does appear the King Stand would be the best thing going, these days, if the Tree Lounge does not re-emerge. Perhaps they should consider a ‘ground’ version in their ‘repertoire’.

      January 22, 2017 at 7:37 pm

      • Hey guys, just so you know there is a new company started by the old operations manager of Tree Lounge. It is called tree lounger at – The owners are great guys and located in Cumming, GA. Replacement parts will all work with tree lounge as far as I know, but you can call to confirm. They are made exactly the same.

    • There were apparently few of either the Ground Lounge or Ladder Lounges made. I have one of the Ladder Lounges. If you want to see a video, I have one where I repair a bent up Ground Lounge. Just google Ground Lounge, repair, video and that should bring it up. I don’t have a photo of the Ladder lounge, but it was just the Ground Lounge with two ladder sections attached.

  158. Hello. I have an old original Tree Lounge I’d like to part ways with. I haven’t hunted in over 10 years. It has bow adapter, leveling block, chill pad & pillow, tree umbrella, gun holder, bow holder, gear bag and is ready to go.

What condition is the stand it? Nearly new? Slightly used? Average used? How much do you want for it? Where is it?

      April 6, 2017 at 10:31 pm

  159. Not trying to spam, but for those who are looking for the tree lounge there is now the tree lounger. You can also order replacement parts from the website. I know the owner and recently purchased one. Apparently it is the same operations manager and the stand + accessories are exactly the same. Website is

      April 7, 2017 at 6:46 pm

      • looks identical to the tree lounge in every way I can see! Either they didn’t have a patent, its ended or this company thinks no one is around to come after them!

        April 7, 2017 at 7:04 pm

    • The King-Stand tree stand is the most advanced climbing tree stand made in the United States. It comes in two models weighing 21 pounds and 25 pound and the King-Stand comes with a platform for standing to allow bowhunting. Weight capacity of 250 pounds and 365 pounds. The King-Stand is protected under United States Patents .

  160. are the kingsstands rated by the tree stand safety assoc. people? in the past i look for there stamp of approval. a little pricey but nice. thing is i can buy 2 used real deal tree lounges for the price of one Kings stands. i usually can get a full TREE LOUnge set up for 150$ locally if you look around.

    April 9, 2017 at 1:52 am

    • The King-Stand is lighter and quieter and the location of the wheels males it a balanced cart.

      November 12, 2017 at 11:42 pm

  161. I own two complete squeak-free, Tree Lounge tree stands with gun holders, saws, camo water repelant clamp-on blinds, camo clamp-on accessory bags, all camo padding, ropes, levelers, custom handles instead of wing-nuts, as well as one set of Tree Lounge axles and wheels for converting the stand into a game transporter. I bought them from Bob Hives in the nineties and would sell them for the right price ($1000 or $1200 w/wheels). Both stands have camo painting. They have been stored in my garage since 1999. I will not sell parts from either. I used to weigh 260 lbs and I have never had a problem using them. They really are the best self-climbing tree stands ever made. Bob wanted to make sure Margaret was safe and happy hunting from them. He succeeded.

  163. thats a shame. I bought an original tree lounge when I first got into bow hunting. I gave it to a friend with the intent of ordering the new larger model since im tall and leg room was the only thing it lacked. unfortunate that a quality American made product and a company run by nice people went this way.

  164. Im looking for a new deer stand and like the look of the tree Lounge and been meaning to get one for years now to find out that they aren’t being made any more . It would be faster for me to use one in the areas that I hunt but i guess that i will hunt with the old stand that my step dadgave me

    • Tree Lounger, a new Georgia company, is now remaking the Tree Lounge using the original square tubing on the original dies. This is a quality made in USA stand that is likely stronger than the original. They are available now and can ship. Go to

      November 12, 2017 at 10:30 pm

    • The Tree Lounge is now being remade using the same jigs as the Tree Lounger. They are a GA company and can ship immediately. These are as good as or better than the originals. Go to You will find a catalog and lists of spare parts.

      November 12, 2017 at 10:36 pm

    • A new GA company Tree Lounger is remaking the Tree Lounge from the original jigs that is as strong or stronger than the original. They also offer accessories and a strap-on stand called the Ground Lounger. You can see the stands and order at I know the people and they are putting out a good product.

    • There are not many of them out there. Tree Lounge only made them for a portion of one season. I have driven over and repaired mine, but I do not know of any others. Tree Lounger makes a strap on stand called the Ground Lounger, but it is not the same design. I have a video up on that one.

      November 12, 2017 at 10:28 pm

  167. I have 2 TreeLounges, one is the original rectangular version and the other is the D- and frame in green. They both have bow platforms and are in great shape. $300 each and $50 shipping anywhere in the US. If you’re interested, call or text to 989-714-3711.
